Freddy Beleris was transferred to the Tirana Prison Hospital because, according to press reports, he was not feeling well due to heart problems.
According to TiranaNews.gr, the battle for his freedom continues.
Freddy Beleris was declared the winner by the CEC as mayor of Himarra after being appointed by the Berisha-Meta coalition, but the fact that he is in prison and unable to take the oath may be the reason for his eventual loss of the mandate.
The swearing-in requires the mayor’s personal presence at the municipal council within three months of receiving the anointing from the Central Electoral Commission.
Judicial sources from the Tirana Court of Appeal state that Freddie Beleris has petitioned the Tirana General Court of Appeal to have his arrest and pre-trial detention declared unlawful. The Tirana General Court of Appeal cited the incompetence of the hearing and referred it to the Special Court, which is handling the charges against him.
Also today, according to journalistic sources, Freddie Beleris applied to the Special Court of Appeal Court with a request to reject the decision of the Special Court of First Instance and release him from custody. According to the same information, the court’s decision was made today, but it did not take place, because Beleris and Kokavesi’s lawyers did not appear at the meeting.
