The United States sees no reason to change the readiness of its nuclear forces because of Lukashenka’s words about the transfer of Russian nuclear weapons to Belarus.

The United States strongly condemned the agreement between Minsk and Moscow on the transfer of Russian tactical nuclear weapons to Belarus. “This is yet another example of the irresponsible behavior we’ve seen from Russia since the full-scale invasion of Ukraine,” said State Department spokesman Matthew Miller on Thursday, May 25.

The use of chemical, biological or nuclear weapons against Ukraine would have “serious consequences”, he warned. At the same time, Washington still sees no reason to reconsider the readiness of its own nuclear forces and has not noticed any signs that the Russian Federation intends to use nuclear weapons. “We see no reason to adjust our strategic nuclear potential,” Miller said.

A few hours earlier, the ruler of Belarus, Alexander Lukashenko, announced in Moscow that Russian tactical nuclear weapons had begun to enter the country. “It was necessary to prepare the storage sites and so on. We have done all this. So the movement of nuclear weapons has started. It has already started,” he said.

Lukashenka admitted that tactical nuclear weapons are already on the territory of Belarus, saying that he would clarify this upon returning to the republic.
