In recent weeks 11 climbers from various countries, including Australia, China and Malaysia, as well as five Nepalese Sherpa guides – died trying to conquer the top of the world, while at least two other climbers are missing.
This season Kathmandu 478 climbing permits issued, a record numberwhile the number of deaths this year should surpass that of 2019, when unprecedented images of crowds atop the Himalayas went viral.
