South Korea and Germany will soon sign an agreement aimed at strengthening their defense cooperation, South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol said today during a meeting with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz in Seoul.
This agreement will contribute to “a well-functioning defense industry supply chain,” the South Korean leader said.
South Korea is now trying, amid the war in Ukraine, to beef up its defense industry to take advantage of the increased demand that is observed at the international level, but so far Seoul has not sent weapons systems to support Kyiv.
“I expect South Korea and Germany to expand their future-oriented cooperation,” the South Korean president said at the start of his meeting with the German chancellor in Seoul today.
It is noted that the leaders of the two countries discussed, among other things, the prospects for deepening cooperation in the field of microchip production.
Olaf Soltz is visiting South Korea from Hiroshima, Japan, where he has been in recent days to attend the G7 summit.
