Germany: In Ukraine, new evidence leads to the sabotage of Nord Stream gas pipelines

Ukraine brings new evidence of the sabotage of the Nord Stream gas pipeline last September in the Baltic Sea, according to a group of German, Swedish, Polish and Danish media investigating the case.

According to North German radio NDR, Northwest German radio WDR and the Sueddeutsche Zeitung, new investigations “point” to Ukraine as to those responsible for sabotaging the pipelines that transported Russian natural gas to Europe. According to investigators, the traces start from the Andromeda sailing ship in the Baltic and lead to suspicious companies that exist only “on paper”, as well as to a person possibly connected with the Ukrainian army. However, as already noted, it is still unclear whether this was a reaction to the Russian attack or a provocation, and the German prosecutor’s office is actually working on other versions.

The Andromeda was first reported in March last year by Germany’s first public television channel ARD and the newspaper Die Zeit. According to two German media outlets at the time, five men and one woman sailed on it from Rostock in early September 2022, while the ship was rented by a Polish travel agency owned by Ukraine. However, the company, which has no phone number and only an email address, claims as its address a building that claims to be the headquarters of more than 100 other companies. The woman, who appears as the president of the company, lives in Kyiv and did not want to answer questions from journalists. The man who presented his passport to rent a boat is Ukrainian, but presented a Romanian passport. The man is about 20 years old, he served in the Ukrainian infantry. His family claims that he is also serving in the Ukrainian army at this time.

As the “Researchers” note, the special services repeatedly use such “proprietary” schemes to disguise or finance their operations. However, the Ukrainian authorities have not made a statement regarding the investigations of the German Federal Prosecutor’s Office.

According to other versions, Russian vessels – research and military, equipped with underwater drones – were in the area of pipelines a few days before the explosions. However, as emphasized in the NDR, ZDR and SZ, German investigators did not find evidence of the involvement of Russian ships in the explosions.
