OUR NASA announced on Friday that he had signed a contract with his company Blue Origin Jeff Bezos for the construction of a lunar rover mission to the moon, the launch of which is scheduled for 2029.
The Artemis V mission is another key part of NASA’s Artemis program, which aims to send astronauts back to the moon. The astronauts are to land on the moon on a spacecraft built by SpaceX for the Artemis III and IV missions.
NASA will pay $3.4 billion to Blue Origin, which, along with other aerospace companies such as Boeing and Lockheed Martin, outpaced a second group led by Dynetics, a defense company based in Huntsville, Alaska. Dynetics, a subsidiary of Leidos of Reston, has secured support from aerospace company Northrop Grumman in its proposal.
At the time, NASA expressed concern that the lawsuit would cause delays in the Artemis program. In November 2021, Blue Origin’s lawsuit was dismissed in federal court.
Blue Origin has faced difficulties in the past. In September 2022, a Blue Origin space rocket was destroyed mid-air. Shortly after launch, the rocket’s engines caught fire, but the NASA payload capsule managed to detach and return safely to Earth. This was the 23rd mission of the Blue Origin New Shepard program, which includes manned and unmanned space missions.
The manned missions include a short trip to the edge of the Earth with outer space, which is enjoyed by the ship’s passengers, some of whom are wealthy businessmen who have paid large sums for the journey, some are celebrity guests (such as famous artists), and in some cases a company or Jeff Bezos select to invite a person with different criteria.
