
The cost of making it classic pizza Margherita continued to rise in April compared to the same period last year, although the pace inflation slows down for all its components.
According to Bloomberg, citing data from the Italian Institute of Statistics and the Ministry of Finance, pizza ingredients (flour, tomatoes, mozzarella and olive oil) and the energy required (in an electric oven) to bake the emblematic “dish” of Naples increased by 19% in April compared to 2022.
However, price growth has slowed down compared to March, as well as November last year, when the cost of production rose by more than 30%.
… The Pizza Index continues to outperform headline inflation, which stood at 8.7% last month.
The cost of buying ready-made pizza has risen 7.6% this year, making the supermarket a better deal than homemade pizza.
