Ramzan Kadyrov on Monday thanked Ukrainian intelligence services, which he said helped him recover Zaza, his racehorse, which the Chechen leader values at $10 million.
“Friends, I have good news! Do you remember the story of the theft of Zazu, my racehorse, who was first subjected to European sanctions in 2014, became a victim of Western abuse and was held captive in a stable in the Czech Republic for years?” Kadyrov wrote. in his post in the Telegram channel.
“Well, now I can tell you what really happened. Don’t worry, Zazu is fine. At the beginning of the year, representatives of the Ukrainian special services came to me through intermediaries and offered to buy out Zaza. They knew about my attachment to the horse and were not mistaken – of course, I agreed,” he said.
Kadyrov also wrote that he doubted that the animal would really be returned to him, but “it turned out that the special services had a bold plan – they simply simulated its theft from a stable in the Czech Republic with the complicity of the Czech police. Let me remind you that everyone was surprised how an expensive horse could simply disappear.”
“Now Zazu is going home. And its return cost me… attention: 18 thousand dollars! Yes, that’s exactly the amount the Czech authorities estimated at that time. Given his real value and outstanding pedigree, this is absolutely ridiculous! So, my dears, if you need to bring something from Europe, contact the Ukrainian special services. Fast, professional, cheap, without sanctions!” – he concluded.
Ramzan Kadyrov says he paid $18,000 to “Ukrainian special services” to return his beloved horse to the Czech Republic, from which he was separated after sanctions against him in 2014. The photo he posted is definitely not fresh though https://t.co/uRMBnq9Ybc pic.twitter.com/klzuJ6IU9V

What Kadyrov previously said about the theft of “Zazu”
The Chechen leader’s new comments come after he also announced on his Telegram channel in March that Zaza, a thoroughbred racehorse, had been stolen in the Czech Republic.
“In 2014, my Zazu became the first victim of sanctions against me, my family and my team. This first terrible blow of the democratic West was taken by a thoroughbred stallion. Think about adding the horse to the sanctions list…” he complained on March 8.
Then the leader of Chechnya said that Zaza was stolen by unknown persons from the kennel in the Czech Republic, where he was located. Both the European Union and the United States imposed sanctions on Kadyrov in 2014 over his support for the illegal annexation of Crimea.
“How is this possible? He was kept on a remote farm so that he could be taken away so easily? Where is the security? Where is the brave police with advanced and democratically effective investigative methods?”, Ramzan Kadyrov complained, adding that in Chechnya “you can leave the car unlocked overnight “, so that it is not stolen.
— And, by the way, please do not underestimate the value of my horse. The press, according to the authorities, announced its price at $18,000. Probably, this artificial underestimation is connected with the financial machinations of those who are responsible for its maintenance and care, only purebred Zazu is worth at least 10 million dollars,” he also stated.
