
Police said Colombian and Panamanian security forces seized about 5.5 tons of cocaine from three small boats.
The Colombian Navy seized “two ships with approximately 2.1 tons of cocaine and 1.9 tons of drugs in Morrosquillo Bay, north of Colombia,” the country’s attorney general said.
Also, a third boat with approximately 1.5 tons of cocaine arrived in Panama waters but was stopped there by security forces.
Nine people were arrested and taken into custody in Colombia on drug trafficking charges.
Colombia is considered the main country of origin of cocaine, most of which is smuggled into the US and Europe.
