Authorities said a police inspector in the Brazilian state of Ceará (in the north of the country) shot and killed four of his colleagues at the police station where they worked.
The crime was committed on Sunday in Kamoshima, 354 kilometers from Fortaleza, the capital of the state of Ceara, police said on Instagram.
The suspect, released on bail, fled in a police car after committing a quadruple murder. He then went and surrendered at the gendarmerie barracks, a municipal security official told the G1 news website.
Authorities are investigating to establish a motive for the massacre. The attacker’s lawyer said he was in custody and “in a state of shock.” “He cannot give details while he is in a state of shock, isolated and under the protection of the military police. We are waiting for the next proceedings,” he said.
Mayor Kamoshima declared three days of mourning in the region.
