In exchange for Ukraine withdrawing its troops from the area, Prigozhin offered in January to provide Ukrainian intelligence services with information on the positions of Russian troops, the Post reported.

The newspaper said that Ukraine rejected the offer. A representative of the White House refused to comment on the information in the article.

Prigozhin’s offer came through his contacts with Ukrainian intelligence services, according to classified US documents released by Pentagon Leaks author Jack Teixeira on the Discord chat platform.

Two anonymous Ukrainian officials confirmed to the Washington Post that Prigozhin had several conversations with Ukrainian intelligence officers.

According to one of them, Prigozhin made several offers regarding Bakhmut, but the Kyiv leadership, which was skeptical of his goals, refused.

Prigozhin, a close associate of Russian President Vladimir Putin, has publicly threatened to withdraw his mercenaries from the area around Bakhmut, where they are at the forefront of the Russian offensive, unless they receive much-needed ammunition. In an audio message on Tuesday, he said he and his men would be considered traitors if they left the area.
