Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said Sunday in Berlin that he was working to create a “fighter alliance”, reiterating that his country needed “more weapons”.
During a joint press conference with Chancellor Olaf Scholz, the Ukrainian President thanked the political leadership and people of Germany, and on the other hand, Mr. Scholz reaffirmed Germany’s commitment to support Ukraine “as much as necessary” and expressed his admiration and respect for the attitude of Ukrainians with start of the Russian offensive.
“Your presence here is a strong signal. For 444 days now, Ukrainians have steadfastly and heroically resisted the Russian attack. We will support you for as long as you need. Our solidarity is complete and firm,” Mr. Solts said, welcoming Volodymyr Zelensky.
“Thank you for every mother and for every child you saved,” the Ukrainian president replied, and speaking of the new package – the largest – of assistance from Germany in the amount of 2.7 billion euros, he said: “Thank you, Olaf.”
Mr. Zelenskiy, however, stressed that his country needed more weapons to continue defending itself against Russia, and said he was working to create a “fighter alliance” so that Ukraine could finally acquire modern fighter jets, he said.
“I will also contact the German side to support us in this alliance,” Zelensky said, adding that the issue would be raised in the second part of the negotiations that would follow in the office.
Answering the question about whether Ukraine is making attacks on Russian territory, Volodymyr Zelensky denied the relevant information and retorted: “We are not attacking Russian territory, we are liberating our territories.”
