13-year-old girl escaped attack shark on a beach in Florida after he managed to hit him, causing him to run away.

The teenager, she told 10 South Florida Local News, was sitting waist-deep in water with a friend when she felt a sharp pain.

“Most of all, I felt something very strong in my stomach,” he stressed.

Ella Reid, 13, said she hit the shark when it approached her. “She wouldn’t leave me alone whenever I tried,” she added.

Reed, who was shot in the stomach, arm, knee and finger, required 19 stitches, Local 10 reported.

Shark attacks are common in Florida. Of the 57 incidents recorded in 2022, 16 were in this state. Although there were no deaths from shark attacks in the US last year, two people were injured.

Most of the attacks take place in the US and Australia.

It is worth noting that, according to Reuters, in the past, scientists considered shark attacks unlikely. Everything changed in 1916, when four people died off the coast of New Jersey. The fear of shark attacks increased in 1975 with the release of the movie Shark Jaws.

But scientists note that humans pose a greater threat to sharks.
