
One Russian Mi-28 military helicopter crashed today on a Russian-annexed peninsula Crimeakilling two pilots.
The Russian Defense Ministry attributes the accident to a mechanical failure. The helicopter crashed a few minutes before 16:00 in the Dzhankoy region in the north of the peninsula during a training flight without ammunition, according to the Russian Defense Ministry.
Kyiv has repeatedly stated its intention to return the Crimean Peninsula, unrecognized by the international community, annexed by Russia in 2014.
Military installations and fuel depots in Crimea have been attacked by unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) several times since the beginning of the Russian invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.
The Ukrainian government denies any involvement in the attacks in Crimea.
