Her government Britannia will officially name the Russian mercenary company Wagner “terrorist” organization, which entails the introduction of economic sanctions and other measures against it in order to increase pressure on RussiaHow war in Ukraine is nearing the end of fifteen months, The Times reported yesterday Tuesday.
Wagner mercenaries are leading Russian operations in the eastern Ukrainian town of Bakhmut, where fighting has raged for nine months since the summer of 2022.
The Home Office has been collecting information on Wagner for the past two months and is expected to designate the private military company as a “terrorist” organization immediately, within days or weeks at the most, the Times of London reported, citing a government source.
This means that it would be a criminal offense in Britain to work for Wagner, attend meetings of its members, support him or wear his symbols and logo in public, the newspaper explained.
The company will also face sanctions and be unable to raise funding through UK financial institutions.
According to the report, there is no evidence that Wagner or people associated with her were or were active in the UK after the start of the war in Ukraine in February 2022.
However, there are “suspicions” that the hired firm helped move funds out of the UK after sanctions were imposed on Russian oligarchs and allies of Russian President Vladimir Putin, at least according to a Times source.
The UK Home Office said it was aware of the report and was looking into it when Reuters asked for comment.
