The arrest came just hours after one was released videoin which Khan repeated his claims that the country’s powerful military establishment was trying killed twice.
Recall that last year he was removed from power and has since avoided arrest several times.
Today’s arrest of Khan is the latest in a series of seismic political incidents that Pakistan is suffering from. The start was made when he lost power, which brought him into head-on conflict, as with his successor Shehbaz Sharifso with the army.

Arrest
A witness told Reuters that shortly after Khan passed the gates of the Islamabad High Court, a group of commandos entered the building.
According to other sources, the arrest took place near the court building. According to the same witness, armored vehicles blocked the entrance to the courthouse, and soon after Khan was taken away under heavy guard.

However, Khan’s PTI party denounced “kidnapping“, with Deputy Fawad Sodri talk about the “occupation” of the court by Pakistani commandos and the “torture of lawyers”.

The interior minister said that Khan’s arrest was related to his involvement in a corruption case and denied all allegations of torture. “The arrest was made by the National Accounts Chamber for causing damage to the national treasury,” he stressed.
After his arrest, Islamabad’s Chief Justice, Aamer Farouk, demanded an explanation “within 15 minutes” from the chief of police and the secretary of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. “Come to court and tell us why Khan was arrested and on what charges,” he said. Farouk warned that if they did not show up, he would summon both Khan and Prime Minister Sharif.
Khan’s arrest warrant was issued shortly thereafter – it was dated 1st of May and filed charges of “corruption”.
Khan: “Western-backed conspiracy”
After losing power, Khan was in crusade against the powerful military establishment Pakistan.
He accuses Sharif’s military and government of a “Western-backed plot” to overthrow him and of being behind attempted murder November last year, when during a rally in Punjab.
This week, the military media issued a strong rebuttal to Khan’s claims.
During this period, Khan’s popularity skyrocketed and many admired his determination to stand up to the Pakistani military establishment.
There is widespread dissatisfaction with Sharif’s government as inflation and food shortages have skyrocketed and Khan is expected to return to power in the next general election due in October.
Khan pressured the Sharif government to announce early general electionarguing that the coalition that came to power after his overthrow was “illegal”.

He was elected Member of Parliament in the 2002 and 2013 elections. After the 2018 general election, his party defeated PML-N.
On 17 August 2018, Khan received 176 votes to become the 22nd prime minister of Pakistan, while his rival and opposition leader Shehbaz Sharif received 96 votes.
Khan was sworn in as prime minister on 18 August 2018. He was ousted on April 10, 2022 after being impeached.
