Western experts: Drones that flew to the Kremlin probably took off from Russia

U.S. experts say the drones that exploded over the Kremlin this week could have been launched from Russian territory.

Dana Howard, president of the nonprofit Resilient Navigation and Timing Foundation, says the drones “probably didn’t use GPS, but were hand-held — that is, launched from close range — or simply followed a predetermined kamikaze-style course.”

Russia accused Ukraine of organizing the attack with the help of the United States. Kyiv and Washington deny their involvement.

“It’s amazing that this drone was able to fly all the way across Moscow, all the way to the Kremlin, without being detected and destroyed,” said Blake Resnick, founder and CEO of drone manufacturer BRINC. “The relatively small size and low height may have helped. He explained that if the drone did not use GPS and communicate with the ground control station, it would also make it difficult to jam (its signal).
