OUR King Charles and his son Prince Williamtook to the streets today to greet the crowd outside Buckingham Palace in central London ahead of tomorrow’s coronation.
Charles drove out of the palace gates in his royal car, but stopped halfway down the high avenue leading to Buckingham. Many Britons camped in the area in anticipation of the ceremony. He shook hands and smiled with many of them while others cheered him on with applause and singing “God Save the King”.
“I know you won’t get enough sleep here,” William told the woman, referring to the people living in tents who had already created a festive atmosphere despite the heavy rain. “I hope you don’t get wet,” he added.
The king and his son, who was accompanied by his wife Kate, chatted with many people and took selfies with them.
On Thursday, William and Kate took the Underground to a traditional London pub where they had the opportunity to mingle with patrons and owners two days before the coronation.
