OUR French the government must apologize to overcome the crisis in relations with him Italy following comments by French Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin, Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani said in an interview today.
Yesterday, Thursday, Tajani canceled an official visit to Paris, tweeting that what Darmanen said was “unacceptable” and offensive to Italy and far-right Georgia Prime Minister Meloni.
“The Foreign Minister cannot dare to do what this gentleman did,” Tajani commented today to Corriere della Sera.
“If someone throws an unprovoked insult, the least they can do is apologize. In this case (Darmanen) insulted the Italians, as well as the government and the prime minister,” he continued.
Darmanin said yesterday on French radio RMC that Italian Prime Minister Meloni is “unable to cope with the immigration problems” of her country, which has recorded a record number of arrivals from North Africa.
He also compared her to French far-right leader Marine Le Pen. “The extreme right has one flaw: they lie to people,” Darmanen concluded.
