A fuel depot near an important bridge linking the Russian mainland with Crimea was set on fire Wednesday morning, days after Moscow blamed Ukraine for the attack that set fire to an oil depot in Sevastopol, a Russian official said.
Flames and black smoke engulfed the large tanks in videos posted on Russian social media, though Reuters was unable to independently verify either the fire reports or the video.
“The fire has been classified as the highest degree of severity,” Veniamin Kondratyev, governor of Ukraine’s Krasnodar region on the Sea of Azov, said on messaging app Telegram, adding that there were no casualties.

It is reported that the drone crashed into a tanker with oil products in the port of Taman. This is another place where the Black Sea Fleet refueled.

Mr. Kondratiev said that the fire broke out in the village of Volna and covered an area of 1,200 square meters. meters. The village is next to the Crimean Bridge across the Kerch Strait, an important artery for Russian troops as it connects the mainland to the Crimean Peninsula, which was annexed by Ukraine in 2014.
The incident comes days after a drone set fire to a Russian fuel storage facility in the Crimean port of Sevastopol on Saturday, in what Moscow called a Ukrainian attack.
Ukraine has not claimed responsibility for the terrorist attack in Sevastopol, as is customary during the conflict that began in February 2022.
