The Late Late Show: reason for host James Corden’s resignation

On the morning of 28 April James Corden presented the latest edition of the popular American talk show (discussion show), Late Late Show.

The British actor, comedian, screenwriter and producer announced in early 2023 that he would step down as host of the show within a year.

In a recent interview with The Times, Corden explained why he made the decision to focus on his personal life and spend more time with his wife Julia and their three children.

“I have so many wonderful childhood memories,” he said. “Usually we rested in a trailer surrounded by cement. But one summer we went on a van ride to France listening to Paul Simon’s “Graceland” and I remember it as something very beautiful and powerful. That’s why I quit the talk show.”

He said the decision came after his family had to cancel last year’s summer vacation due to Corden’s busy work schedule.

“When I told my 11-year-old son Max that the holiday was cancelled, he was very upset. Then I realized that my children and I only have six years before they start going on vacation with their friends. Six if you’re lucky. I knew I couldn’t do it with them again. So I quit,” Corden explained.

Corden was recently embroiled in controversy when Balthazar restaurateur Keith McNally posted on his Instagram account that The Late Late Show host had been banned for being rude to staff.

McNally later wrote that the ban was not enforced after Corden called him and apologized despite stating that he “didn’t do anything wrong”.
