Michael J Fox on battling Parkinson’s: I won’t live to be 80

Hollywood actor Michael J. Fox, who has been battling the condition for 30 years, has mentioned his struggle with Parkinson’s.

To promote his new documentary “Still”, which will be released on May 12, Fox appeared on the CBS program “Sunday Morning”.

“It’s getting harder and harder. It’s getting tougher and tougher. It’s getting harder every day, but that’s the way it is,” said the protagonist of Back to the Future.

Falls, he notes, are the biggest problem for people with Parkinson’s disease. “You will not die from Parkinson’s disease. You will die of Parkinson’s disease. I will not be 80 years old,” said the 61-year-old actor.

“It’s terrible to have Parkinson’s disease. For some families, this is a nightmare. This is hell. You have to deal with situations that are beyond the understanding of most people,” he stressed.

Emmy and Golden Globe Award winner Michael J. Fox was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease in 1991. He was 29 years old. He had just finished filming “Hollywood Doc” and sought medical attention after feeling a tremor in his little finger.

He did not publicly disclose that he was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease for several years.

To date, the research fund he created to fight the disease has raised $800 million.
