Armenia and Azerbaijan will soon hold talks to reach a peace deal in an attempt to resolve their long-standing differences, the Russian TASS news agency reported, citing Armenian Security Council Secretary Armen Grigoryan.
TASS also reported that the Armenian defense minister discussed with the new commander of the Russian peacekeeping forces in the region the situation in Nagorno-Karabakh, which is internationally recognized as part of Azerbaijan, but which is home to about 120,000 Armenians.
Since December 12, the Azerbaijanis have partially blocked the Lachin corridor, the only supply route through the territory of Azerbaijan, connecting Armenia with Nagorno-Karabakh.
Azerbaijan also set up a roadblock on the road in question, which Armenia called a serious violation of the 2020 ceasefire agreement.
Baku said the move was necessary to stop the route from being used to transport militants and weapons.
French Foreign Minister Catherine Colonna has visited Azerbaijan and Armenia in recent days, urging both sides to take confidence-building measures and return to the negotiating table.
