Moscow rejects U.S. embassy request for officials to visit Evan Gerskovich

The Russian Foreign Ministry announced today that it has denied a request by the US Embassy in Moscow for a May 11 visit by imprisoned Wall Street Journal reporter Evan Gershkovich.

The Russian Foreign Ministry said the decision was made in response to Washington’s refusal to issue visas to Russian journalists who accompanied Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov to the UN headquarters in New York.

Gerskovich was arrested last month and charged by Russia with espionage, which he denies.
