The leaders of Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Russia, Vladimir Putin, took part via video link in the opening ceremony of the Turkish nuclear power plant in Akuyu, built by Russia’s Rosatom.
For Erdogan, this was actually the first “live” public performance after a two-day absence due to illness.
The leaders of Turkey and Russia today had a telephone conversation prior to their “appearance” video in Akyuyu, in the context of which they are said to have discussed a number of issues concerning not only Akyuyu itself – where today the first ceremony of transfer of nuclear weapons takes place – but also with more wide regional events from Ukraine to Syria.

It is recalled that the Turkish President was going to “attend” the opening ceremony in Akugiu today, but canceled his lifetime participation due to ill health.
Turkey’s first nuclear power plant, built by Russia’s Rosatom, will start operating as usual in 2024, Russian news agency TASS reported today.
Speaking today about the Akuyo Nuclear Power Plant, the Turkish President spoke of “a strategic investment that will make a unique contribution to the security of Turkey’s energy supply.”
“Our country has risen to the league of nuclear powers,” Erdogan continued, saying that the Akuyu nuclear power plant will produce 10% of Turkey’s energy, that it will have 4 reactors, and that all reactors will be commissioned by 2028.
“I want to express my gratitude to the Russian authorities, especially Vladimir Putin, who supported our project from the very beginning. […] Akyuyu is the largest joint investment between Turkey and Russia,” the President of Turkey said today, in particular.
President Tayyip Erdogan is in good health and will resume his daily routine as soon as possible, Turkish Health Minister Fahrettin Koca said earlier today that Erdogan is suffering from gastroenteritis.
