Russian President Vladimir Putin has instructed his government to work on creating museums dedicated to Moscow’s year-long offensive in Ukraine, according to instructions published on the Kremlin’s website and cited by AFP.
“To ensure the creation of museums (regional, municipal, on the basis of educational organizations) dedicated to the events of the military special operation and the feats of its participants,” says the document dated Wednesday, which appeared on the Kremlin’s website on Thursday.
“Military special operation” is how Russia called its attack on Ukraine, which it launched in February 2022.
Putin also ordered to “consider the transfer of objects related to a special military operation for display in a museum.”
The government should also “consider the issue of organizing the study of the history of military special operations” in the education system.
Since the start of the offensive against Ukraine, Russia has passed a series of repressive laws aimed at suppressing criticism, including a law punishing “discrediting” the military. Several people, both opponents and ordinary people, received long prison terms.
The government also increased social assistance to fighters and their families and introduced special classes in schools to spread the government’s arguments among the youth.
The wars of Russia’s past, especially the Second World War, are already the subject of countless museums, exhibitions and monuments.
Recently, a military recruitment campaign has been launched in Russia on the streets and in social networks. Literally in two days, a new law on new mobilization into the army was adopted.
