The topic of the meeting was the safe arrival of the Greeks that have already been removed from the African country, and planning for future evacuation operations. Operations to evacuate foreign citizens from the war-torn country continue.
On Wednesday afternoon, a second Air Force C-27J Spartan arrived in Tanagra with 16 Greeks, one Greek Cypriot, 9 Romanians and 8 Finnish citizens, while another C27 transport departed yesterday at noon he had already landed in Aswan, Egypt to pick up other people who managed to leave Sudan.
As noted in the ERT report, the exact number of Greeks who were in Sudan at the beginning of hostilities remains unclear, as many of them have dual citizenship and have been picked up by Western forces in recent days. and were transferred to an EU country without notifying the authorities.
The number of remaining Greeks living in Sudan has reached 80, according to state television. They have all taken care to hide in a shelter or in their homes, and their location is difficult due to power outages and problems with telephone lines.
Two victims were operated on
Yesterday, as reported in the related GRETHA announcement, two wounded Greeks released from Sudan were successfully operated on and they arrived on Tuesday in Athens.
These are two men, aged 59 and 42, repatriated from Djibouti.
According to ERT, a 59-year-old man was hit by a rocket near the Church of the Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Khartoum, and a 42-year-old man suffered lower limb fractures and shrapnel wounds.
The two were taken to the 401st General Military Hospital of Athens (401 GSNA), where they immediately underwent many hours of successful surgical repair of their wounds by a team of specialist surgeons.
As noted, after the operations, their condition improves satisfactorily, but remains serious: a 59-year-old man remains intubated in the intensive care unit, and a 42-year-old is hospitalized in a hospital ward.
