Sudan’s paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) stormed five prisons and freed prisoners, the African country’s interior ministry, which controls General al-Burhan, said Wednesday.
Prisons allegedly raided by paramilitaries include Kober in the capital Khartoum, where ousted President Omar Hassan al-Bashir and other senior officials were held, the ministry said.
Police said the raid in Kober resulted in the death and injury of several prison staff, adding that the RSF released everyone held there.
According to the ministry, searches in prisons took place from 21 to 24 April.
Bashir was transferred from Kober prison to a hospital on April 15, before the outbreak of hostilities between the army and the SLO, on the recommendation of medical staff. He is being held in a military hospital, the military said earlier on Wednesday.
The fighting continues
Despite a three-day ceasefire agreed by the warring parties from midnight Monday to Tuesday, fighting continues both at the regional level in Khartoum and in other cities of the country.
It is a fact that due to the failure of telecommunications (the Internet in Sudan has been disconnected since Sunday), negotiations between the cities are not easy for either of the two rival military factions.
