Twitter checkbox to verify fake Disney account

Twitter gave an account verification badge to a fake Disney profile.

According to the BBC, an account called @DisneyJuniorUK tweeted harsh content but managed to get a gold tick before being banned.

A profile user informed followers about the tick being added, commenting: “This can’t be true, someone stung me.” This particular tweet went viral.

There is still confusion on the platform about how the new Twitter account verification system works. Meanwhile, Disney Junior’s real-life account has also been marked with a golden tick.

Last week, Twitter removed the blue checkmarks from verified accounts under owner Elon Musk.

While many celebrity accounts initially lost their blue ticks, over the weekend most of them were restored, with nearly every user with over a million followers receiving a new blue tick.

What happened to the new confirmation icons:

Blue Tick: The classic verification badge now means the account is subscribed to the $8/month Twitter Blue subscription and has completed certain verification steps, such as linking a mobile phone number to the account. The account must also be at least 30 days old and not recently renamed.
Golden Checkmarks: These badges are for organizations and businesses that pay $1,000 per month.
Gray checkmark: This is the sign of an official government account, such as a national organization or head of state.
