Duro, a member of the far-right Nasha Batkivshchyna Movement party, made the comment in an interview with Izvestia, Russia’s oldest daily newspaper.

“As long as Ukraine’s borders are disputed and the armed conflict continues, even NATO’s own rules do not allow Kyiv to join the alliance,” she emphasized, adding that Budapest does not see circumstances under which Ukraine could join the North Atlantic Alliance on terms favorable to it. .

But then she named the condition for Ukraine’s accession to NATO: Russia’s consent.

“Without the risk of starting a war, Ukraine’s accession is possible only if Russia approves it in the form of a final agreement,” she said.

Hungary again accused Hungarians in Ukraine of oppression

Duro then criticized what he called the “harassment” of ethnic minorities in Ukraine by the Ukrainian authorities.

“The Ukrainian leadership does not want to guarantee elementary rights to Hungarians, Romanians, Russians and other minorities in the country, trying to limit their existing rights, especially in the area of language use,” she accused.

“Given the increase in military aid, Kyiv feels less need to compromise and guarantee adequate rights for the indigenous Hungarian population of Transcarpathia,” she believes.

Duro noted that the Ukrainian authorities can take the “right step” in this direction and grant territorial autonomy to Zakarpattia Oblast and other regions.

This thesis about the oppression of the Hungarian minority in Transcarpathia was repeatedly stated by high-ranking officials in Budapest, including the head of Hungarian diplomacy, Peter Sijarto. But even representatives of Hungarians in the region rejected Szijarto’s accusations.

The head of NATO talked about the accession of Ukraine to the alliance

Dora Duro’s comments to the Russian media appeared a few days after NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, during a surprise visit to Kyiv, said that Ukraine’s place in the Alliance.

“NATO is with you today, tomorrow and whatever,” Stoltenberg said during a joint press conference with President Volodymyr Zelenskyi before inviting him to a NATO summit in Vilnius in July.

“We don’t know when this war will end, but we do know that Russian aggression is a toxic model that must be stopped. Therefore, we must continue to strengthen the Armed Forces of Ukraine. And we have to make sure that there are solid and strong security mechanisms of Ukraine,” the head of NATO also said.

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban immediately questioned these statements.
