Cavusoglu attacks Biden over the Armenian Genocide: “Political charlatans distort history”

He responded with particularly aggressive statements Mevlut Cavusoglu in a White House statement on the anniversary of the Armenian Genocide.

In a Twitter post, the Turkish Foreign Minister said:

“Political charlatans trying to distort History are back on the scene! History cannot be rewritten with political statements.

Opportunists who persist in this regard will be remembered for their ulterior motives and hypocrisy. No one can teach the great Turkish nation a lesson in history.”

Although Cavusoglu does not personify the fire he lit, the Turkish press speaks of a “tough response” to Joe Biden.

“Today we pause to remember the lives lost during the Meds Yeghern – the Armenian Genocide – and reiterate our promise to never forget.

On April 24, 1915, the Ottoman authorities arrested the Armenian intelligentsia and public figures of Constantinople, which marked the beginning of a systematic campaign of violence against the Armenian community. In the years that followed, one and a half million Armenians were displaced, massacred or put to death, a tragedy that forever affected generations of Armenian families.

Together with the peoples of the world, remembering this painful history, we also reflect on the resilience and determination of the Armenian people. Many of those who survived were forced to start new lives in new countries, including the United States. Here and all over the world, the Armenian people met evil with hope. They rebuilt their communities. They “cultivated” their families and preserved their culture. They have strengthened our nation. They also told their stories – and the stories of their ancestors – to remember and ensure that a genocide like the one that took place 108 years ago would never happen again.

Let’s renew that promise today. Let us recommit ourselves to speak out against hate, protect human rights and prevent atrocities. And together, let’s redouble our efforts to build a better future — a future where all people can live with dignity, security and respect.
