US President Joe Biden announced on Saturday evening that diplomatic personnel had been removed from the US embassy in Khartoum, where heavy fighting had been going on for the second week, adding that Washington had temporarily suspended its embassy.

“Today, on my orders, the US military carried out an operation to remove US government personnel,” Biden said in a statement calling for an end to “senseless” clashes.

“This tragic violence in Sudan has already claimed the lives of hundreds of innocent civilians. This is absurd and must be stopped,” he stressed.

At the same time, the American president noted that his team regularly informs him about the work to provide assistance to the Americans in Sudan, and works with allies and partners on this issue.

For his part, US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken noted that the US temporarily suspended the activities of its embassy in Khartoum after the safe removal of its employees and their relatives.

Blinken explained that the employees were removed due to an “unacceptable risk” to their safety, but did not elaborate on the operation. According to the American media, military planes and helicopters were used to evacuate the Americans.

In addition, the number of Americans evicted is not known, although it is at least 70 according to an American official who wished to remain anonymous.

“We will continue to assist Americans in Khartoum (…) and provide regular updates on American citizens in the region,” Blinken added in a statement in which he reiterated his call to the warring parties to extend the ceasefire they declared on Eid al-Adha. Celebrating Fitrah and agreeing to a complete cessation of hostilities.

Yesterday Saturday, Saudi Arabia announced that it had taken more than 150 people from Sudan to the port of Jeddah.

The evacuation was carried out by the country’s navy, with the support of other military forces, the Saudi Foreign Ministry said, announcing the safe arrival of 91 Saudi citizens and about 66 citizens from 12 other countries.

These are citizens of Kuwait, Qatar, UAE, Egypt, Tunisia, Pakistan, India, Bulgaria, Bangladesh, Philippines, Canada and Burkina Faso.

According to Riyadh, among the people expelled from Sudan are diplomats and international officials.

Meanwhile, Germany’s defense and foreign ministers said they held an emergency meeting on Saturday to consider whether the country’s citizens could be evacuated from Sudan after German warplanes were forced to turn 180 degrees on Wednesday, the magazine reported. Der Spiegel.

For days, the US, South Korea and Japan have deployed troops to Sudan’s neighbors, while the EU is considering taking similar steps to remove its diplomats and citizens from the country.
