
European Parliament today endorsed sweeping reforms to make EU policy more ambitious. to do changing of the climateincluding the modernization of the Union’s carbon market, which will increase the cost of pollution in Europe.
Own coal market Europe forces power plants and factories to buy carbon dioxide (CO2) permits when they pollute the environment. Emissions from these sectors have been reduced by 43% since 2005, but it is being revised to meet more ambitious European climate change targets.
MEPs also supported the world’s first EU plan. phase out restrictions on imports of carbon-intensive goods from 2026, targeting imports of steel, cement, aluminium, fertilizers, electricity and hydrogen.
The carbon tax at the border aims not to undermine EU industry. from more polluting foreign competitors, eliminating the temptation for EU companies to move to regions with relaxed environmental regulations.
The laws must be approved by the EU countries, which will evaluate them in the coming weeks.
