An account in one of the social networks, which spread false information about the war in Ukraine, was created by a former non-commissioned officer of the US Navy, confirmed The Wall Street Journal, Business Insider reports.

Sarah Beals, a 37-year-old woman from Oak Harbor, Washington, served at the U.S. Naval Air Station Whidbey Island until November 2022, Navy records show online. Beals’ identity was first discovered by Twitter and Reddit users and first reported on a human rights website.

On the Internet, Beals went by the name Donbas Девушка, and her account posted graphic images of fighting and praised a brutal wing of the Russian army known as the “Wagner Group” and sometimes praised the deaths of Ukrainian fighters.

Beals told the WSJ that 15 other people helped her manage the account.

The man has a YouTube channel, a Twitter feed and a Spotify podcast with tens of thousands of subscribers. In the podcast, Beals, who has claimed in previous posts to be of Eastern European descent, appears to be speaking with a fake accent.

Her Telegram account was also linked to the spread of leaked intelligence documents that appeared on a Discord server. Jack Teixeira, a 21-year-old US National Guard employee who leaked, was arrested Thursday and charged Friday with possession of classified national security documents.

Beals, who had classified clearances as a Navy officer, told the WSJ that he did not facilitate the leaking of the documents.
