The Italian economic police carried out the largest drug seizure in the country to date in the sea area east of Sicily.
That’s two tons of cocaine packed into about 1,600 small bags. The total cost of drugs exceeds 400 million euros.
The traffickers packed the cocaine into bags and tied it with a net with glowing warning signs.
Massive quantities of drugs were found by Italian Air Force planes and Italian economic police speedboats, describing the operation as a “record confiscation”.
According to the information currently available, this illegal shipment was brought to the area by a commercial vessel and then was supposed to arrive on land on small speedboats of traffickers.
This time, however, the equipment of the Italian Air Force and Navy reacted much faster.
