Iranian authorities have seized another oil tanker belonging to foreign interests, Reuters reported, citing information from Iran’s semi-official news agency Tasnim.
Months after the release of Greek sailors on tankers seized by the Iranians for allegedly illegally transporting oil, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps on Sunday reportedly seized a foreign tanker with 145 million liters of oil.
The incident took place in the Persian Gulf, the ship’s crew was arrested, Tasnim news agency reported.
Neither the ownership of the vessel, nor from which company it was chartered, has been disclosed.
Iran, which has some of the lowest fuel prices in the world due to large subsidies and the depreciation of its national currency, is cracking down on rampant fuel smuggling by land to neighboring countries and by sea to the Gulf Arab countries.
