US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken said today that he is deeply concerned about reports of an escalation in violence between the Sudanese military and the main RSF paramilitary organization, while calling for an immediate cessation of hostilities.

“We are in contact with our embassy team in Khartoum, everyone is currently held accountable,” Blinken wrote on Twitter. “We call on all parties involved to immediately stop the violence and avoid further escalation of hostilities or mobilization of forces, but continue negotiations to resolve important issues.”

Suspension of flights

Egypt’s state-owned airline EgyptAir announced today it is suspending flights to and from Khartoum for 72 hours after hostilities began in the Sudanese capital.

Saudi plane crashes at Khartoum airport

Saudi Arabia’s state-owned airline (Saudi) has announced that one of its Airbus aircraft “has crashed” at Khartoum Airport in Sudan ahead of a scheduled flight to Riyadh today, without disclosing details.

Saudi Arabia also said in a statement that its flights to and from Sudan are suspended until further notice.
