
With winds in excess of 300 km/h, Tropical Cyclone Ilsa hit Western Australia, confirming experts’ warnings that it was the worst storm in 15 years.
Passing through the Pilbara region on Friday morning, Ilsa broke meteorological records with a sustained wind speed of 10 minutes / 218 km/h.
“The system looks like a big hit,” the meteorologist said, explaining that Category 5 cyclones are “incredibly dangerous.”

“Those houses that are not built with safety standards will suffer significant damage,” the urgent announcement says.
The country has declared a red alert level, thousands of people are seeking asylum. About 700 residents of the remote village of Bidyadanga have fled their homes, according to the fire department.
