A strong earthquake shook the island of Java in Indonesia at noon on Good Friday Greek time. The Euro-Mediterranean Seismological Center estimated its magnitude at 6.6 degrees on the Richter scale.
It is reported that the focus of tremors was in the sea area a few kilometers north of the island, where the country’s capital, Jakarta, is located. Local media reported an earthquake measuring 7 on the Richter scale, citing the United States Geological Survey (USGS).
The depth of the earthquake was especially large: the US Geological Survey estimated it at 594 kilometers.
The Geophysical Agency of Indonesia has reported a strong earthquake in northern Java, which, however, does not raise concerns about a tsunami.
There are no reports of damage, thanks to the large depth of the vibration center.
