Musk, who also runs automaker Tesla and rocket company SpaceX, bought Twitter for $44 billion in October last year.

His interview with the BBC from the company’s San Francisco headquarters covered a wide range of topics, including mass layoffs, misinformation and his work habits.

The past few months have been really stressful, he said, but he still believes he made the right purchase for the company. At the same time, he added that, logically, things are going well and the use of the platform has increased.

Laying off almost 6,500 people was not easy

The departure of several Twitter engineers after Musk bought the company raised concerns about the stability of the platform, the BBC notes.

An attempt to reduce fake news

As for misinformation and hate speech, Musk has argued that there have been fewer of them since the acquisition, and that his efforts to remove bots –automated accounts – will reduce fake news.

But many independent experts disagree, reports the BBC. One study — and there are several others along the same lines — found that engagement with popular disinformation accounts increased after Musk was acquired.
