Donald Trump, during an interview on Fox News broadcast yesterday, Tuesday, accused Emmanuel Macron of “licking” Chinese leader Xi Jinping after French President’s visit to Beijing.
Em. Macron has come under fire from several quarters since his return from Asia because of his stance that he urged the European Union not to become a “follower” of either America or China, especially on the issue of Taiwan.
“My friend Macron is going to China and licking (Xi Jinping),” said former President Trump.
The former Republican president has accused the administration of his Democratic successor, Joe Biden, of weakening the U.S. leadership role in the international arena to the point that it is losing the support of its traditional allies.
“The world is broken, it’s exploding everywhere, and the US has no reason to,” Trump said. “I said, “Okay! “Now France is heading to China,” he added.
The Joe Biden administration has attempted to dedramatize the situation by assuring that bilateral relations with France are excellent.
Faced with backlash, the French presidency defended Emmanuel Macron’s position, believing that Europe’s “special voice” should be heard.
