The commander of the ground forces of Ukraine accuses Russian troops of switching to the Syrian “scorched earth” tactic in the city of Bakhmut, where the fiercest battles are taking place, writes Reuters.
Bakhmut, a small town in the Donetsk region, is the center of the biggest battle during Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.
- “The enemy switched to the so-called scorched earth tactics used in Syria.
- Buildings and positions are being destroyed by airstrikes and artillery fire,” said the commander of the Ground Forces of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, General Oleksandr Syrskyi.
He also noted that Ukrainians continue to defend Bakhmut. “The situation is difficult, but under control,” said the Ukrainian Navy general.
According to him, for the attack on the city, the Russian troops involve special forces and airborne assault units, because the members of Wagner’s group are “exhausted”, writes Reuters.
