
Four people died and many were injured this afternoon in an avalanche on the Armance glacier in the Alps, French Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin said on Twitter.
The count is still preliminary, search and rescue operations continue, the head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs specified.
Nine more people were at the site of the avalanche in the town of Condamine-Monzois, local authorities in Haute-Savoie said.
The possibility of a second avalanche is not ruled out
According to the same source, the length of the avalanche was one kilometer, and the width was 100 meters, while the possibility of a second avalanche in the area is not ruled out.
The search involves rangers, firefighters and a medical team, along with trained dogs, assisted by a Civil Protection Service helicopter.
