A Brussels pre-trial council was convened today to decide whether Pier Antonio Pancheri is allegedly the “mastermind” of the scandal. Cathargate– he will be released from prison with an electronic bracelet, or he will remain in Saint-Gilles prison, where he has been held since December 9th.

According to Le Soir, citing Pancheri’s lawyer, the decision to release the former MEP with the electronic bracelet has been finally made. This means that it will be released within the next hours or days, the publication notes.

Recall that in January Pier Antonio Panzeri signed a “memorandum of cooperation”. with the Belgian authorities, according to which he undertook to “personally inform judges and investigators about the work procedure, financial agreements with third countries”, but also about “involvement in the case file of known and unknown persons, including the identity of persons who confessed to giving a bribe”. In exchange for this information, the punishment will be reduced under Belgian law, which encourages “pentiti” (repentant) to cooperate with the authorities.

It is noted that Eva Kylie and Belgian MEP Marc Tarabella, who are also implicated in the scandal that rocked the European Parliament, they remain imprisoned. On April 13, the pre-trial council will consider Eva Kylie’s request for release from prison.

Eva’s partner Kylie was also arrested in the same case. Francesco Giorgiwho, however, was later released with a bracelet.
