North Korea: US pushes region to ‘brink of nuclear war’

The creation of joint military institutions of higher education between the US and South Korean armed forces has brought the region to the “brink of nuclear war,” North Korea’s official news agency, KCNA, said on Thursday.

The agency released a comment by Chou Joo Hyun, who says he is an “international security analyst.” In the text, the exercises conducted by the forces of Washington and Seoul are condemned as “bringing the situation on the Korean Peninsula to the point of explosion.”

“The risky military-confrontational hysteria of the United States and its supporters” against North Korea “brings the situation on the Korean Peninsula to an irreparable catastrophe,” to “the brink of nuclear war,” he continues.

Tensions in the region continue to escalate as North Korea ramps up testing of ballistic missiles capable of carrying a nuclear warhead, and the US and South Korea continue their military displays of force.

According to the Department of Defense in Seoul, the United States sent a B-52H strategic bomber that can carry nuclear weapons to participate in the exercises, demonstrating the reliability of “extended deterrence”.

The term “extended deterrence” refers to the US commitment to use the full range of its military capabilities, including nuclear weapons, to protect its close ally South Korea.

The American aircraft carrier is also participating in the new aviation schools in the Yellow Sea.

The KCNA commentary says that Pyongyang will “aggressively” build up its deterrence capabilities in response.

North Korea is outraged by the joint high schools of the US and South Korean armies, which is a rehearsal for the invasion of its territory.
