A strong 6.6 magnitude earthquake hit the city of Viga in the Philippines today, and the local seismological agency has issued a tsunami warning.
According to the Euro-Mediterranean Seismological Center, the earthquake epicenter was located about 120 km east of the city of Viga, located in the province of Catanduanes, and the depth of its source was 45 km.
The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology has urged those living near the coastlines of the hardest-hit provinces to move inland. He warned that there could be waves as high as 1 meter or more, especially in enclosed bays and straits.
“Citizens should be alert for any unusual waves. We advise them to stay away from the coast,” said Teresito Bacolcol, an employee of the state seismological agency, radio station DZMM.
So far, there are no reports of casualties or damage.
