Recently, numerous videos have appeared on social media showing that trenches built by the Russian army to better protect their soldiers are actually becoming graves for soldiers that President Vladimir Putin has sent to Ukraine.
A new video posted on social media on Monday captured a defensive position with trenches filled with Russian soldiers killed by Ukrainian drones, a technique perfected by Kyiv’s military in the months since the Russian invasion began last February.
Carefully! The images are extremely graphic and with strong emotional impact, even compared to other similar posts that have appeared on social media in the more than 12 months since the war began. In some stories, Russian soldiers are captured in the last moments of their lives.

Unconfirmed information circulating on social media claims that the video shows Wagner’s mercenaries from the outskirts of the city of Bakhmut, who were killed by ammunition fired from a Mavic-3 drone. This is a type of commercial drone that can be purchased from many online sales sites for just over €2,000.
The Ukrainian military began using commercial drones to launch hand grenades and other types of improvised munitions in the early months of the war amid a shortage of heavy ammunition for the Ukrainian military.
#Ukraine: UA forces continue to develop methods of delivering munitions from commercial drones – this time adapting fish bait bombs by placing conventional F-1/RGD-5 grenades in them.

Several videos shared on social media by Kyiv forces over the months show how Ukrainian drone operators were able to perfect the technique to launch munitions precisely through the hatches of Russian tanks or armored vehicles.
The fact that the Russian combat vehicles affected in this way have in most cases already been abandoned by the operators has led some netizens to speculate that the Ukrainian military is carrying out these attacks just to “show off”. But the explanation is different: these strikes are used to permanently disable tanks and armored vehicles, which are located in the area of the front under the control of the Russian army and cannot be easily captured by Ukrainian infantry.
Russian trenches, “death traps” for Putin’s soldiers
If last summer most of the footage showing attacks by Ukrainian drones with home-made munitions were mainly strikes on military equipment, then in recent months a significant part of them shows attacks on Russian soldiers in trenches and other defensive positions.
Some examples, again with disturbing images in some cases:

This paradigm shift seems to be related to the evolution of the nature of the fighting in Ukraine, which, starting with the arrival of winter and also in the previous months, ended mainly in battles of attrition from defensive positions, partially reminiscent of the battles fought in the First World War .
And the proliferation of drone strikes in Ukraine appears to be an adaptation to this situation, as such strikes have become more destructive for at least two reasons.
The most obvious is the fact that Russian soldiers in the trenches in most cases cannot easily escape to another position during such attacks. Second, the attacks themselves lead to greater casualties because the blast waves of spent ammunition are scattered in the trenches, often causing serious injury or even death.
The tactics seem simple, but brutally effective: Ukrainian drones “chop” the Russian trenches with such strikes, and then the infantry comes, which eliminates the surviving Russian soldiers and takes their positions.
