Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has said that he wants Vladimir Putin to spend the rest of his life locked in a basement with a bucket instead of a toilet. He made these statements on Monday when he visited a Ukrainian village liberated by Russian forces a year ago and where, according to Ukrainian officials, most of the local residents were captured by Russian soldiers in a basement, writes AFP.

According to Zelenskyi, in March 2022, 11 people died in the basement of a school with an area of less than 200 square meters, where 367 of the approximately 400 residents of the village of Yagidne in northern Ukraine were held for 27 days.

  • “All these people were sitting in complete darkness, waiting for the Ukrainians to return.
  • The names of the dead and their dates were written on the walls so that they would not be forgotten.
  • And the children wrote down the words of the national anthem of Ukraine,” Zelenskyy said during the ceremony in this village of Chernihiv region, where he was accompanied by German Vice Chancellor Robert Habek.
  • “After seeing this, I want the president of Russia to spend his whole life in a basement with a bucket instead of a toilet,” said the Ukrainian president.

Russian troops have occupied territories in northern Ukraine since the beginning of the invasion, which began on February 24, 2022, and then reached the gates of the capital, Kyiv. But about a month after the invasion began, Russia decided to withdraw its troops from northern Ukraine to focus on the offensive in the east and south.

During his intervention on Monday in a village liberated after Russia’s withdrawal, Zelenskyi promised that all Ukrainian territories occupied by Russian forces would be liberated, saying those forces would be “destroyed” if they did not withdraw themselves.

  • “I will not talk about specific things in order not to give terrorists in Russia the opportunity to prepare for our measures and methods of de-occupation.
  • But we will, and they should know it. They still have time to leave here, otherwise we will destroy them,” he said, referring to the expected counteroffensive that the Ukrainian army will prepare, receiving new Western weapons.
  • “I can’t say when we will be ready for very specific things. But we are preparing to be strong in battle and liberate our land. It is difficult to say when and how we will do it,” the Ukrainian president admitted.

He again opposed peace talks with Russia: “We want peace, but how do we make peace with Russia?” Only after winning on the battlefield in our country, we can stop Russia. Otherwise, after Ukraine (Russia) will go to Europe, and you can see the result.” (Source: Agerpres)
