Two Palestinians were killed today by Israeli forces in the occupied West Bank, the Palestinian Health Ministry said.
In a brief statement, the ministry said two “martyrs” were killed by fire from “occupying” forces in Nablus, without naming them.
For its part, the Israeli army said it carried out an “anti-terrorist” operation in Nablus that arrested two suspects involved in the attack in Huwar, in which two soldiers were wounded.
According to the Israeli military, during today’s operation, Israeli soldiers came under fire and returned fire.
“During the operation, several militants opened fire on the soldiers, who opened fire in response,” the army units said in a statement, noting that military equipment, weapons and ammunition were seized.
During the night, a man allegedly involved in terrorist activities was arrested in Wadi Shiman.
Since the beginning of the year, at least 90 Palestinians, 15 Israelis and one Ukrainian woman have been killed, according to AFP figures compiled by official Palestinian and Israeli authorities.
This number includes fighters and civilians, including minors, on the Palestinian side, while those on the Israeli side are mostly civilians, including minors, as well as two members of the Arab minority.
There were fears of tensions escalating ahead of the start of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan, but the first week was relatively calm.
However, last Saturday, three Israelis were injured in a car attack in the West Bank. The alleged attacker was killed by the police.
On Friday, Israeli police killed an Israeli Arab who they say grabbed a policeman’s gun and opened fire in Jerusalem’s Old City. However, his family disputes this version of events.
