
Two trains of the regional railway network Switzerland derailed today in two unrelated accidents, in which several passengers were injured, according to police in the canton of Bern.
The accidents occurred on two different sections of the network, the distance between which is several tens of kilometers.
The first train derailed around 4:30 pm. local time (5:30 pm Greek time) between Luzerz and Biel, and the second about 20 minutes later near Birenzum Hof, according to police spokeswoman Florine Schenk, who spoke to AFP.
Ambulances, firefighters and police units left the scene.
The first train to derail belonged to RBS, which said the accident was likely caused by strong winds, according to Swiss website swissinfo.ch. Part of the train overturned, other trains were interrupted.
A few minutes later, another Aare Seeland train derailed and several passengers were injured.. The circumstances of the crash have not been established by the authorities. However, the website of the Swiss Federal Railways indicates that a section of the track had to be closed due to bad weather conditions.
Today, gusty winds up to 122 kilometers per hour swept through several areas north of the Alps. Trees fell on some sections of the road network.
